Hi, my name is Greg Stivers. I'm the Dean of Student Success at the University of Providence. I'm here to give you a tour of the library. Let's head on inside.
Our first stop is going to be the Academic Success Center, which is right through these doors. This is the Academic Success Center. There are three of us that work here in the center. We are Academic Success Counselors. We are assigned to students when they come here as freshmen, and we follow them all the way through graduation. We can offer assistance with mental health counseling, how to take notes, how to prepare for a test, and just how to be a successful student.
One of the ways for us to attract students into the library is through the smell of popcorn. We do "Popcorn Fridays." This part of the library is dedicated to Student Success. It's where students come to seek help with tutoring, either from our STEM Center, from an individual tutor, or from our Writing and Critical Thinking Center.
This is the Jorgensen edition of the library. It houses the Jorgensen-Wilder Classroom, three private study areas for our students, and has a fabulous area for students to relax and hopefully prepare well for their final exams.
TRIO Student Support Services is just one other resource that we have to help students. There are two full-time staff members who work in TRIO. One of them is the Disabilities Advocate. TRIO serves three types of students: first-generation, low-income, and those with a documented disability.
One of the most important things for students to know and understand is to have a good relationship with their faculty members. We try to make that easy here at the University of Providence with our Faculty Offices Suite. It's part of the library.
Thanks for joining me on the tour of the library. It was my pleasure. If you're ever on campus, please be sure to stop by and say hi!
